Have the BFG OC
Not overclocked at all, so core is 615
Ran furmark, temps went to 105c before stabilising. Fan went to 100% from about 80c upwards

This seems too hot to me!

Sounds like the original problem. There is no cure, send it back ASAP. My replacement was flawless.

The original problem?
Doesnt go above 75c in games...

Not sure if I want to be without it for another week (this is a replacement due to a dead one).

Might email BFG, get them so send a replacement before I send this one back. Think its worth a shot?

Early batches of 280 gtx had a fault causing them to run too hot causing the cards to throttle the speed back. If yours is running over 105 degrees its likely you'll need to RMA it.

I seem to remember it shouldn't go to 105c under any circumstances. I cant see them sending out a replacement first.
Maybe if it doesn't go above 75c in games its OK, but I wouldn't really be happy . Google for the problem, you'll see there is quite history to this.

Yea, I see it had happened a lot!
As it only does it in furmark I doubt they will accept an rma. It's just annoying as I wanted to clock it up to 700 core etc which I now won't be able to do.

As I said, mine was exactly the same as yours and they changed it (OcUk) simply because the card should never reach 105c. I had no problems with the RMA at all.

I bought mine second hand so can't return it to ocuk.
What's the best 3rd party cooler? One that will help and is quiet?
What is the problem? Is it the cooler? Would reseating it help?

the high pitch noise is normal.. many 200series cards squeal a bit when loaded.

Daying that, 105C is ridiculous.. mine doesn't get anywhere near that, even when the fan stays silent.

If you've no warranty to RMA it, then I'd seriously look into a 3rd party cooler like the T-Rad2 to bring those temps down before it burns out or hinders performance via throttling.

It's not as mad as it sounds. What's airflow in your case like?

I had temps hitting around 100, turned the blowhole fans around so they blew air downwards and this sorted the problem. I thought airflow was pretty good in mine, as it had 6 120mm fans going. Turned out I was wrong.

Its in a Akasa Eclipse with 120mm at the front & 120mm at the back.
Airflow shouldnt be an issue as far as I can tell, people with SLI dont have this problem with the top card & in my case with just 1 card this shouldnt happen...

I have had 4 GTX280's so far

First one did the 105 deg within 5 mins thing
RMAed it and got a new one no heat problems after that

As regards the squealing , that is not normal ( poor quality capacitors will cause this )

MInes was doing that it will quickly break mate :(

BFG swiftly replaced my card for me after I sent the card down.

Squealing is normal on these cards and most modern ones now tbh, nothing to worry about unless its doing it constantly.

Mines squeals for 5 seconds when launching a 3D app, thats all.

I was getting about the same temps - gpu at about 100c running FurMark at 1920x1200. Have now replaced stock cooler with Thermalright HR03-GTX and load temps reduced by 30c and huge decrease in noise. Unfortunately, the Thermalright (and the Artic Cooling Accelero for the GTX280) is rubbish at cooling the VRM modules causing them to run at least 30c MORE than the stock cooler. I'm now going to do some more modding to get the VRM temps down as these high temps make the card unstable under extreme tests like FurMark. When I get more info I will probably start a thread with a mini review on this cooler.

Sold it
Ordered a 275 GTX instead
Slightly less memory (100mb) but I dont have a huge res to play at.
Less power & can OC higher anyway.

Wasnt going to RMA a 2nd time!
