280X crossfire

Maybe because 280X CF is faster than a single 290?

Oh, and it really is easily more than enough to power them and it doesn't desperately need to be some platinum superduper model either :)
A decent 750W would be fine too, unless going for high OC's on everything..

910 watts here with my two little HD 7970s.:D

OP as the guys have said your PSU should be fine providing it is a good quality one and you are not going to put crazy volts through the cards overclocking.

Jesus Kaap. What were you doing to draw that much?
I'm gonna assume you have a silly high clock on a 2011 chip too? :D

I was only seeing about 680W at the wall with 7990/7970 trifire (all at 1000/1500, granted) and a 2600K @4.7. This was with BF4 @200% scaling and getting gpu usage in the 90's.

ED: Oh, and a couple of 7990's (+ WC stuff) @1130 1.175v that are only pulling 1030W at full load. CPU isn't doing anything on that one though...

I prefer crossfire to single gpu, also it would be a seasonic psu. The XFX DD black editions look the business.

I know what you mean. Even though they're both technically crossfire, I just elected to go with 7970CF over a 7990 :D Each to their own...

If those XFX DD cards are anything like their 79xx counterparts, I'd avoid them like the plague :)

Reviews are good, cards look slick, fastest ones at retail and all two years warranty is done with the retailer. Not seeing any cons here. Thanks for the opinion anyway.

Ok, it's just that VRM cooling was non-existent with the 79xx versions (though I'm not sure if that was the Black Edition or not).

Having looked at a shot of the BE with it's cooler removed, I'd say that VRM cooling is still crap, but hey, it's a nice looking card and at least it doesn't seem to be voltage locked :)

Yeah, it's been included with their drivers for a while now.
I haven't tried xfire previous to that, but I will say that I haven't experienced any kind of stuttering since I've been running two cards.

Could try disabling frame pacing to see if there's a big difference I guess...
