The time has come to replace my aging 6950 and really would like some advise on what to go for it's going to be either a 280x or 290 but don't have a clue, I currently have a 24" monitor @1920 x 1200 might upgrade to a 27" but that wont be until next year. Game wise its mostly WoW and first person shooters but that's about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah 290 for sure, altho the 280X is still a very competent card, so if you are on a tight budget then 280X will still get the job done.
