Hi guys,

Just built a new machine with 2x GTX 285's in SLI, brand new install with windows vista. Updated the drivers to the latest of the nvidia website. I only have one monitor on the pc, but in desktop settings the machine is showing 4 monitors.

I have installed the drivers for my monitor but everytime I run an application it reverts back to a generic monitor driver agan which is a nightmare.

I have tried reinstalling the drivers and the monitor, no such luck :( Really gutted, spent all day putting it together only want to play some games and its nearly 3am!! :)

1) your machine is capable of outputting to four monitors - that does not mean that the other three are set up as extended desktops.

2) nothing wrong with your monitor showing up as 'generic' in windows.

There's nothing wrong with your machine. Have you tried playing any games? Do you experience any issues when playing games?

The problem is that I can install the driver for the monitor and run a game fine, but if I reboot the machine or leave it off for a period of time, or the application crashes and i have to restart then windows boots having seem to forgot the monitor. It then shows it as a generic non PnP monitor which only allows a max resolution of 1024x768:(

Running vista home premium with a HP 24" LCD. Driving me crazy, spent hours trying to get it to work properly.

More crazyness...one screen shows the driver installed, the other shows it as a generic monitor. If any one can offer any advice I would be really thankfull, as its doing my head in!!

Trouble with it is, if I dont it just seems to see it as a generic monitor and thus not allowing me to select the correct resolution.

Not had this problem with my 8800 GTS and Vista Ultimate so I really dont understand whats going on. I can only guess its something to do with the SLI? :(

Ok, uninstall all the nvidia drivers, download driver sweeper and run that in safe mode.

Then remove one of your cards and install the latest nvidia driver let it does it thing then reboot. Power down, install the second card, boot to windows then run the nvidia driver installer again, shutdown, install the sli bridge and boot to windows, check to see if you have the sli option sin the nvidia control panel.

I had a similar problem on the EVGA X58, but with 3 cards is a real pain in the bum, but once you've done it it seems ok from then on with each driver install.
