I currently have a 27" 1080p 144hz gsync 1ms monitor, but I was thinking about trying a 29" ultrawide 2560x1080 5ms

main use will be gaming
PC: 4770k/GTX970

anyone here gone from 27" 1080p to a 29" ultrawide monitor, if so how did/do you find it.

I've had a look for ultrawide monitors with gsync but they are rare and more money.

cheers

Honestly, it depends entirely on what you play. I've got the 29'' now but tbh I'd trade it for a 27'' for things like DotA 2/Path of Exile, some MMOs, etc. Quite a bit better in FPS/3rd Person games though. Debatable as far as strategy/top-down games are concerned. Right now I'm keeping it, mainly 'cause I couldn't be arsed to return it, I started to like it a bit more as I kept using it, and frankly the 27'' 1080p selection isn't spectacular (and I don't care to go up in resolution) - though I had a Iiyama I loved; just can't beat the colours on this LG tbh!

One thing I would say though, the LG's stand is god damn atrocious, so think about if you can add a mount/wall-bracket to hold it (and that will be another £15-20).

27" 1080p won't look great TBH. The dot pitch starts to get low at that res. Personally I'd go for the LG 29". It's what I use and I'd never go back to 16:9.

i did, from a 27" benQ gw2760hs to an LG 29Ea73.

it's shorter, obviously, but it didnt take me long to get used to that. But its wider and the aspect is soo good for gaming. Honestly i wouldnt buy a 27" 1080p monitor again. they are too soft, everything is sharper on the 29" UW. The only thing i really miss is the inky blacks the benQ had (MVA panel). Dont miss the pixel response times though. Of the two id pick the 29" UW every time.

I'm looking to move again, However. This time it'll probably be a 32" QHD panel. 4k" for me is excessive and you really need a 40" panel to make use of it without resorting to windows scaling, which is trash. And you need a lot of GPU grunt to make the best of it in games, too. I'd buy a 34" UW but i cant justify the cost of a decent 3440x1440 screen (though i have one at work and i love it). 32" QHD in my opinion is a good compromise between size, resolution and price.Gaming will suffer as it does mean i loose the 21:9 aspect (though i could run a custom resolution if i really wanted to) but i gain a lot more desktop space and i'm finding the 2560x1080 29" to be limiting when it comes to productivity, which is more important to me these days.

I switched from a 24" 1080p to the LG 29" Ultrawide last week and think its great, for what I do the extra horizontal space was well worth the cost.

Looked at 1080p 27" monitors but everything just seemed a bit "big" for the res, you will lose a bit of vertical space going from the 27" (29" is the same height as my old 24") but not a major issue.

Only tried a few games but those I've played do seem more immersive and hasn't required me to turn settings down on my GTX970.
