I have just installed a 290 in my x58 system and apart from some fan rattle, it seems to run ok. The problem I am having is the 7970 I was using before seems to have lost most of its control when running alongside the 290, its stuck at 2d core/memory speeds and both Trixx and Afterburner just show it as having 0 core and memory speed. I have tried to disable ULPS but it does not seem to make any difference.

The card is working as I get a monitor output from it and anything i run on it does run, but at super slow speed.

I have tried both the latest stable and beta amd drivers and i am also running the latest beta of afterburner, the 7970 works fine if its plugged in on its own.

Any suggestions on how to make the 7970 work in afterburner alongside a 290?

(its attached to a x8 slot if that makes any difference).

still struggling with this, I have found that if i remove the 290 and reboot the pc once without it, then re-add it, the 7970 works as it should, but only until I need to reboot again :(

it doesn't show up in the catalyst control center and gpuz shows the same 0 core and memory speeds that afterburner is.

Anyone else had experience of mixing different cards without using crossfire?

game and luxrender on the 290, luxrender on the 7970, i guess its similar to mining but the settings of the cards don't need to be anywhere near as accurate. I am not trying to crossfire.

If I run luxmark the 7970 currently does about 1/4 its usual rate, it also overheats a great deal as it doesn't increase the fan speed without the temp readings working.

its not really to do with either of those though, the main issue seems to be that:

1) catalyst control center does not fully recognise the 7970, I can adjust how its monitor works, but it does not appear in the overdrive settings
2) gpu-z has the dropdown to select the 7970, its gpu clock and memory show as 0, the sensors pick up the power usage and the vrm temps, but its not reading the clock speeds, the main temperature, the fan speed/rpm or the gpu load
3) afterburner is much the same as gpu-z, the sliders are blank or have a value of 0, the graphs are showing more information though, all thats missing is the temperature and fan speed information.
