Whats the story with the heat pipes on the xt and pro cards some have 3 pipes and others only 2(my pro) It seems quite random what has which cooler.
Is the 3 pipe cooler a lot better:confused:

My Powercolor 2900PRO has 3 and can't say it's particularly great, i'm considering aftermarket cooling...

I would try replacing the TIM on the cooler before you do that :) Might save you money, and if your thinking of taking the standard on of anyway...

I replaced the TIM on my HIS, the original stuff is grey and there's plenty of it but it had spread nicely on the core.

Now has AS5 but only dropped temps a few degrees however I did find that the original wasn't secured very well and as such one of the vreg chips wasn't making full contact with the thermal tape.

It's a little tricky reassembling the cooler around the core as if you don't align it 100% so the mounting lugs come through the PCB it's possible to crush some of the surface mounted components under the little springy backplate.
