2900 vs 3850

Wish I had waited now

My 2900Xt is fine and plays every game (bar Crysis) on full etc but power, heat and noise is annoying...

If only I had waited could have had a 8800GT or 3870... but then wouldn't have got HL2 etc free and wouldn't have bin able to game on full GFX for the last 3 months

But is DDR4 not about the same speed as lower speed DDR3 due to the slack timings?

depending on the game u may see a 2-5fps extra...that was with a 2900 drr3 to ddr4

but maybe the 3870 is using the ddr4 better... the only way to know is to clock the 3850 to 3870 or underclock the 3870 to 3850 then benchmark them..

why worry.. its same around the performance...

only main different of the 3870 is less power/heat.. which isn't worth much to upgrade

Dont worry the 2900 should last until the next gen easily, i mean I play crysis on high at 1280x1024 (with the cheap very high hack from tweakguides) and average 30fps which is enough for me atm. UT3 averages 61.2fps for me at 1280x1024 16xAF. By the time the next gen hits my 2900 will have served its worth as it was a good card for its price and performance when I got it in July.
