Is this normal?

I read somewhere that the 2900xt has two clock speeds... a 2d one and a 3d one..

When I ran the show 3d view of ATI tool then clocks didn't change.

I have only just installed ATI tool after downloading GPU-Z yesterday and seeing the lower the normal GPU & memory clock speeds.

Basicly is it running at full whack or is something wrong?

Doe's it not kick into 3D clocks when you run the artifact tester in ATi Tool.

Sorry it's taken so long to answer back, new install of Vista so been moving files:rolleyes:.

When I run the 3d view in ATi tool the clocks in GPUZ don't change. ATI Tool also notes them at the slower 510 core and 511 mem speeds.

Could this just be Vista x64 being annoying?

Hey guys,

Cheers for your replies.

I checked the options in Ati Tool, the only option that I could see about 2D/3D clocks is ticked. It says that it will switch to 3D clocks when starting Ati Tool but I don't think it is.

Everest shows the lower clocks (510 & 511mhz) and when I run the 3D view in ATI Tool Everest contiunes to show the lower clocks.

As to things running slowly, Crysis gets less than 30FPS on the following system:

2900XT
E6600 @ 3.2ghz
4GB RAM @ 920mhz

Also the fan doesn't often spin up, it will only spin up if I have been playing a game for hours and the whole system gets hot. Just running ATI Tool doesn't make it spin up.

Any suggestions?

Just to let everyone know that it was ATI Tool not jumping the clocks upto 3D mode or what ever.

Installed Riva Tuner and ran Crysis. Quit after 5 mins and found that it had increased the clocks no problem. Even had a go at overclocking it & got a 3-4FPS increase on the crysis GPU benchmark :D:D Did find that it got quite hot doing that though...

Cheers to everyone for your help and for suggesting Riva Turner! Cannot belive I have gone this long without this program
