Quick question for a mate who is waiting to join the forums and getting impatient :p

He has just bought a 2900xt, i guided him through the process of installing via the phone, but he only has the 6 pin pci-e plug, i said that will prob be ok, but he tells me that he is getting a msg on the screen about not having enough power? Does anyone know if this is normal?
I'm not sure what psu he has other than its an Antec and not that old (6 months or so) and i'm guessing that it would not power up at all if his psu was not powerful enough?

Anyway let me know what ya think. :D

Guessing the PSU isn't powerful enough to run the card with the rest of the system. It would power up but when the card starts to suck more power, ie. games, he may get power errors. I do assume he has 2x 6-pin plugged into the card and not just 1x 6-pin? :) And yeah you can use 2x 6-pin instead of 1x 6-pin and 1x 8-pin.

Cheers guys, thought that was the case or something, knew you did not have to plug in the 2 x 8 pin anyway :p. So he either needs a new psu or a molex to 6pin adapter.

So that msg normal, if you don't have enough power anyway.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but is there ANY benefit from hooking up the 6pin+8pin vs 2 6-pins?

Does the 8 pin really provide more current? I mean my PSU has 72 combined amps!

btw, does overdrive offer special options or something? What's wrong with ATItool?

You see the molex power cables you have in your CD Drive. Basically you need two of those to plug into that adapter

Two of these into that adapter killer posted.

I was under the impression that all 2900s came with that lead. Both versions I got certainly did.
