I may purchase a 290X today if funds allow, going from a 760.

From B Grade btw:

Choices are PCS+ 290X or Sapphire VaporX. Both are the same cost. Using a Corsair 240 with Matx board. Super flower leadex gold 650W.

I can't decide. Never had AMD before.

I can see the PCS+ JUST edges ahead on 2 areas, but I'm concerned over heat. I have two intake at the front, two at the top. Planning for 2 rear exhaust.

Any help is appreciated.

Edit: Temp pc specs:

i5 3570, 8GB RAM, Asrock B75 Pro3 M.

The PCS 290 will be fine, but why the B-grade? The difference in performance will be almost nothing and a new PCS290 (not 290x) is £200!!

There are cheaper 290x if that's what you want:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 290X PCS+ OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £275.99
1 x MSI Radeon R9 290X LE Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £239.99
1 x Asus Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £229.99
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £199.99
Total : £945.96 (includes shipping : ).

Out of those choices - Vapor-X for me, but the PCS is also right up there because its cooler is top notch.

OK thanks guys, Got the PCS+ 290 in my basket. Before I checkout, anything else? Are temps low, noise etc? I will see if the 290x bios can be put onto it if that helps.

Low temps and a powerful cooler that can be altered to be quiet'by setting a custom fan curve in afterburner. The stock profile is quite aggressive, but will keep the gpu is low 60's.

OK placed the order now, thanks for all the help. Did have a triple check for alternatives to the PCS+ but decided on that. Was worried about weight, height, artifacts, black screens etc. Fingers crossed it works! Guessing it'll be a Monday delivery now :( DPD next day free shipping.. I should have done this sooner haha.

I wouldn't worry too much, It's a great card for the money. I do fancy the Vapor X but it's not necessarily worth the extra dough really because I think it's only slightly better than the PCS but a lot more money.

Enjoy. Hopefully you'll get it Saturday. There is nothing worse than ordering just before the weekend delivery cut off point :( I did it with my lightning.
Are you or have you sent the 970 back in your SIG?

I would go for the lightning, it does take up 3 slots, but I doubt you would want to go crossfire on any air cooled 290x, though you could put it on the lower slot, and buy a two slot width card to go above one day. The only issue i have is some driver or windows now just makes it run at stock default 1000mhz, not the 1080mhz, dont know if that apply s to the newer 1030 mhz set ones? though its easily put up manually in afterburner when you want a bit more. I always run it at 1100 for games without issue.
