Why so cheap? Simple its a reference design card that no one wants any more when custom designs cost less. So we came to an agreement to hit a very special price to clear out remaining inventory on what is left on this model.

The reference card actually has some advantages over custom design and that is Crossfire cooling is improved due to exhausting heat and these are also Hynix memory design.

This deal is absolutely mental but this is not a price drop and won't be repeated as this is last of the reference stock from XFX, of course any other board partners who still have reference in stock might now also be willing to cut us a deal to clear their inventories. :)

That is one jaw dropping price drop! Great work.

Not a price drop, just a stock clearance, hence snooze, you will loose!

290X MSRP is £359 - £419
290 MSRP is £279 - £329

Which is what makes this such a great deal! :D

Hi there

Not much room for discount on water blocks, but here goes:-

EK Water Blocks EK-FC R9-290X - Nickel (Original CSQ) @ £69.95 inc VAT

WC-463-EK_400.jpg

EK-FC R9-290X is a high performance full-cover water block for AMD reference design Radeon R9 290X and -290 graphics card. Please check our Cooling Configurator online compatibility system for detailed compatibility list!

This water block directly cools the GPU, RAM as well as VRM (voltage regulation module) as water flows directly over these critical areas thus allowing the graphics card and it's VRM to remain stable under high overclocks. EK-FC R9-290X water block also features a very high flow design therefore it can be easily used in liquid cooling systems using weaker water pumps. The cooling engine now uses refined, 0.6mm wide microchannel structure to even further improve the heat transfer.

Base is made of nickel plated electrolytic copper while the top is made of quality acrylic glass material. The sealing is performed by quality rubber washers. Screw-in brass standoffs are pre-installed and allow for safe, painless installation procedure. Block is mounted with enclosed M3x4 DIN7985 screws.

EKWB recommends the purchase of aesthetic retention backplate (EK-FC R9-290X Backplate - Black) which improves the looks of your graphics cards and also provide some passive cooling to the VRM section.

Flow orientation doesn't matter and is thus not prescribed.

Up to four EK-FC R9-290X series water blocks can be interconnected with EK-FC Bridge & Link CSQ system. The EK-FC Link is already enclosed.

Enclosed:
- EK-FC R9-290X series water block
- EK-FC Link
- mounting mechanism with screw-in brass standoffs
- thermal pads
- thermal grease EK-TIM Ectotherm (1g)

Made in Slovenia - Europe!

XSPC Razor R9 290X / 290 VGA Waterblock @ £89.99 inc VAT

WC-289-XS_400.jpg

Full cover R9 290X / 290 Water-Block with multiport connector.

We are proud to introduce our new design for Razor GPU blocks. We have continued with the styling from our RayStorm series so you can now have a full set of matching XSPC blocks. We have also significantly improved cooling performance by reducing the fin width from 1mm to 0.5mm, this dramatically increases the surface area.

Although we have used an acrylic top for aesthetics we have a thin stainless steel plate between the copper base and the acrylic. This allows us to use LED lighting, while keeping the strength and reliability of an all metal waterblock.

The new multiport connector gives you many choices for neatly routing your tubing. We have two G1/4? ports on the front and back of the block, two on the top, plus a side port, giving 7 ports in total. The multiport connector is compatible with our new SLI flow bridge.

CNC machined copper base
0.5mm fins for high performance
Stainless steel top
Acrylic layer with 3mm LED holes
Brushed aluminium faceplate

Dimensions: 264 x 125 x 25mm
Prepared for Crossfire with 7 G1/4? ports
Supports AMD R9 290X and 290 cards
(AMD reference designs only)

Supplied with twin LED, mounting kit, G1/4" plugs, thermal pads and thermal paste

XFX, nope
Reference cooler, nope

These cards are only marginally interesting to those that want to do custom watercooling. For all other intents and purposes, this is certainly not a recommended buy.

OcUK have special RMA terms which give users 48hr replacement, best service in the market and XFX quality is much improved over previous years.

Reference cooler, yep its not the best but it is nowhere near as bad as people made out.

cheers Gibbo - so these cards are perfectly ok OOTB to chuck in a rig and game with? I'm not looking to go WC anytime soon.

Yes, but don't expect silence, these things make noise and if the airflow in your case is poor then its fan will spin above 60% and that will be quite loud.

This. One reviewer had two of these in crossfire and had his heat sensor camera on record. His neighbours knocked on his door 20 minutes later and asked him why he was using power tools so late at night.

The fan has to get that loud, otherwise it does not maintain stock clocks and throttles itself.

These are perfect for people wanting a card solely for watercooling. I wouldn't recommend buying XFX cards from anywhere but here, due to the colossally bad warranty XFX has.

LOL.

Lets be realistic they are not even close to the noise of power tools, not even a hoover, so the neighbours walls were either made out of paper or that is just a blatant exaggeration.

I had an R290X reference at home on 100% fan, close the door to that room and could not hear it in the next room, let alone my neighbours.

The cooler is not crazy loud, hell 6970 reference is a lot louder than it. :)

Also just fitted the 290x without the waterblock and im getting an idle temp of 78 degrees with fan speed at 33%

Anyone else got any problems card is at stock speeds all i've done is install AMD catalyst upto date driver for this card!
Starting in safe mode to remove drivers and remove card as i think im going to have to RMA this card

That is pretty normal, the AMD cards idle at high temperatures, my Asus DC2 OC idles around 55c with fans at 50%, on the upside it never goes much beyond 80c under-load but the DC2 cooler is a monster.

I was going to order three and order the fourth at a later date, just as well it seems.

Gibbo what's the score on warranty with these, can we change the thermal paste without voiding it?

Yes although it has little effect on stock cooler.
