Why so cheap? Simple its a reference design card that no one wants any more when custom designs cost less. So we came to an agreement to hit a very special price to clear out remaining inventory on what is left on this model.

The reference card actually has some advantages over custom design and that is Crossfire cooling is improved due to exhausting heat and these are also Hynix memory design.

This deal is absolutely mental but this is not a price drop and won't be repeated as this is last of the reference stock from XFX, of course any other board partners who still have reference in stock might now also be willing to cut us a deal to clear their inventories. :)

Hi there

Not much room for discount on water blocks, but here goes:-

EK Water Blocks EK-FC R9-290X - Nickel (Original CSQ) @ £69.95 inc VAT

WC-463-EK_400.jpg

EK-FC R9-290X is a high performance full-cover water block for AMD reference design Radeon R9 290X and -290 graphics card. Please check our Cooling Configurator online compatibility system for detailed compatibility list!

This water block directly cools the GPU, RAM as well as VRM (voltage regulation module) as water flows directly over these critical areas thus allowing the graphics card and it's VRM to remain stable under high overclocks. EK-FC R9-290X water block also features a very high flow design therefore it can be easily used in liquid cooling systems using weaker water pumps. The cooling engine now uses refined, 0.6mm wide microchannel structure to even further improve the heat transfer.

Base is made of nickel plated electrolytic copper while the top is made of quality acrylic glass material. The sealing is performed by quality rubber washers. Screw-in brass standoffs are pre-installed and allow for safe, painless installation procedure. Block is mounted with enclosed M3x4 DIN7985 screws.

EKWB recommends the purchase of aesthetic retention backplate (EK-FC R9-290X Backplate - Black) which improves the looks of your graphics cards and also provide some passive cooling to the VRM section.

Flow orientation doesn't matter and is thus not prescribed.

Up to four EK-FC R9-290X series water blocks can be interconnected with EK-FC Bridge & Link CSQ system. The EK-FC Link is already enclosed.

Enclosed:
- EK-FC R9-290X series water block
- EK-FC Link
- mounting mechanism with screw-in brass standoffs
- thermal pads
- thermal grease EK-TIM Ectotherm (1g)

Made in Slovenia - Europe!

XSPC Razor R9 290X / 290 VGA Waterblock @ £89.99 inc VAT

WC-289-XS_400.jpg

Full cover R9 290X / 290 Water-Block with multiport connector.

We are proud to introduce our new design for Razor GPU blocks. We have continued with the styling from our RayStorm series so you can now have a full set of matching XSPC blocks. We have also significantly improved cooling performance by reducing the fin width from 1mm to 0.5mm, this dramatically increases the surface area.

Although we have used an acrylic top for aesthetics we have a thin stainless steel plate between the copper base and the acrylic. This allows us to use LED lighting, while keeping the strength and reliability of an all metal waterblock.

The new multiport connector gives you many choices for neatly routing your tubing. We have two G1/4? ports on the front and back of the block, two on the top, plus a side port, giving 7 ports in total. The multiport connector is compatible with our new SLI flow bridge.

CNC machined copper base
0.5mm fins for high performance
Stainless steel top
Acrylic layer with 3mm LED holes
Brushed aluminium faceplate

Dimensions: 264 x 125 x 25mm
Prepared for Crossfire with 7 G1/4? ports
Supports AMD R9 290X and 290 cards
(AMD reference designs only)

Supplied with twin LED, mounting kit, G1/4" plugs, thermal pads and thermal paste

I'd not tell you how I do it, otherwise my competitors actually might start being competitors. ;)

So does this mean the 900 series really is going to start a proper price war? We haven't had a good one for aaages :p

No as the current 290/290X products are stable on price and sell well, but anyone left with reference 290/290X well why would you buy a reference card at a higher price than a superior cooled quieter card. You simply would not!

But now we change peoples minds by giving them reference card at bonkers price! :D

Can also double as a hot air blower for the winter (for the thousandth time) :D

Crazy value for money there though seriously.

Na, Nvidia will not need match AMD pricing, as they will have not have trouble selling, even if their products were a bit higher in price.

It's like Samsung lowering the pricing of their product range not less necessarily mean Apple need to lower the pricing of their products as well. There are people that might be swayed by lower pricing, and then there are those will stick with a particular brand no matter what. Just look at the pricing the R9 285 pricings at launching at £170...all Nvidia did was drop their GTX770 pricing by a tinny bit, and still a good £30-£50 more expensive.

Probably not. AMD and retailers will be trying to get rid of 290/290x stock/make them more attractive price wise, before the 970/980 comes a long and makes them look obsolete. If the rumours are true and the 980 beats a 780Ti by 10% at stock and does it whilst only drawing 170w (and presumably decent heat output at that tdp) then the 290/290x will be defunct unless they can be had cheap as chips.
