I used to use AMD/ATI cards but their drivers were so bad I switched to Nvidia with 400 series and haven't looked back. I have no idea what their drivers are like today but Nvidia have recently released Shadowplay and it makes it so hard to buy anything buy Nvidia as that is such a good feature!

However the 780ti is really expensive and the 290x can just about match it and it seems with Mantle (in BF4 at least) the card can really shine and for less...

I'm not interested in SLI or Crossfire, I've had experience of both and they both make games on the whole run worse, have driver issues or have no impact what so ever. Also though I have multiple monitors and it messes them up a lot and what annoys me is the memory isn't doubled.. so it is pointless really.

The 780ti only has 3gb of memory which is a downer as 2gb wasn't enough and 4gb seems like it'll have more life in it going forward.

Really comes down to if AMDs drivers are good yet and if Shadowplay is worth the extra £100...

Honestly you need to decide if shadowplay is enough of a factor to keep you from buying the 290 (not 290x). AMD has a similar feature on their "Radeonpro" feature but it is not yet ready for distribution.

If you are not going to be watercooling, get something like a Sapphire R90-290 Tri-X and call it a day. Just make sure you got enough space for the card- it is one of the longer ones out there.

If you like ShadowPlay and you know what is what with nVidia, save a few squid and grab a 780 (non Ti) There is some awesome 780's that are clocked faster than a 290X out the box.

If I had the £550-600 budget a custom factory overclocked 780Ti Ghz.
Or else get a EVGA/Gigabyte 780 from here. WF3 is good on budget, Classy is the best of the best.

(I could have told you also to consider a PNY XLR8 OC like mine, but there is no stock in UK)

Well the 290 has no Analogue port so it's a no no for me, like how do you make a GPU without an DVI port without the Analogue parts? My Monitors are DVI-I so it means they wont fit in the ports and I have two VGA monitors too as they're CRT.

Will have to go Nvidia but I'll probably just wait considering the 700 series came out in May 2013.

Having tried all the cards myself, I would go with the Nvidia GTX 780 Ti.

The build quality, performance, and features are superb. It really is a monster, that's not to say the 290X isn't great. The 290X has great performance and some nice upcoming features with Mantle / true audio etc. Also it's good for mining (;.

Overall the extreme high quality of the GTX 780 Ti edges it in Nvidia's favor for me.
