290x ram clocking

I have Elpida memory on my 290s. The only clocking I've done of it is downclocking. I can't imagine overclocking would go too well, so haven't bothered. There's not too much of a performance gain to be had anyway, from what I've read.

Notch it up in 50hz increment and test each time, some will clock a decent amount, some (see above) won't clock much at all.

Though Tbh if it's higher scores/fps you crave, core is king by a long way.

down clocked for a reason? or just as a precondition

yer i did one run a second ago at 1400 and it run fine, i may keep at stock and just work on clock

I was having trouble with black screens, so downclocked the memory 100Mhz which fixed it. Now I have power limit set to +50 instead, which has the same effect.

yes i had a 290p that did black screens was also Elpida mem, what cooling dose your card have?, i suspect it down to bad cooling on the ram that duff's them up over time.

ppl say if the ram is under 100c your ok????? i cant imagine the ram been happy anywhere near that.

I think the damage was done before I got hold of it, as I picked it up 2nd hand in the MM. May have been used for mining.

It's a Powercolor reference card, though I've now replaced the cooler with an HG10 and AIO on both of my 290s (2nd doesn't appear to have have black screen problems).

Nothing wrong with elpida. I have Elpida on my first reference 290x and it clocks all the way to 1625 and have never been let down by elpida. The main difference i think is the RAM scores higher in more synthetic benches if its hynix or Samsung at the same clock but real life improvements are minimal between the brands. Improvements are probably down to variation in timings.

That two comments that make me a little happier, as i know i will be looking after the card and no abusing it that ram should be ok then.

from what i see on the googles the main ram that as problems is elpida with ref coolers. i remember me 290, when i was watching a bluray i touched the side of the Ram/Vrm plate and it burned my finger that cant be good for ever of the components

Memory clocking on the 290/290X is tied to core voltage so you might need to raise the core voltage to increase the OC ability on the video memory P4Clock.

that would be why no matter how hard i look i cant find a ram unlocked trixx of AB :)

What is a safe amount to pump in. Trixx lets you add upto 200mv

If black screening at 1400 and 200Mv the card sounds pretty poor. Dial the memory back to stock and see how far you can push the core. Core is king anyhow for gaming performance.

OK... Lets start that thread again.

first i am a moron , last night i when through a lot of programs and setting trying to get the ram to do something. i have just removed them all and there setting. system restart, reinstalled trixx, system restart.

R9 - 290x from stock.

+100Mv memory up is 50's i am now at 1500 and moving forward

:D:D:D:D somtime you just need to turn it off and on ;)

@Geeman1979, i know my GPU spaz's out at 1175 +125Mv, no matter how much power i put in 1150Mhz is max stable.
