hi

need some advice.

i have 1x already and am thinking of getting another for crossfire is it worth doing? do i wait till better cards?

playing on a 4k 28 samsung monitor btw i have had to tweek settings on GTA5 to run smooth @ 4k

cheers

The worry with your card is that it's an open air design. As soon as you add another temps go crazy, because the top card starts using the dispelled air from the bottom one.

I had two 670 Jetstreams in SLI and they were far, far cooler cards than any 290x and the top card used to hit the high 90s until I added two 120mm fans right over them screaming into them which made a lot of noise and the top card still hit the mid 80s.

It's definitely doable, and more than good enough for 4k ATM but just be mindful that you may need to add in some extra cooling.

Cheers m8 for info

So there's a lot of heat on them ?
Oh ps I have a corsair 780t case has good air flow

Hmmm what to do

i tried a pair of 290 tri-x and temps on the cards were fine but there was a build up of heat in the case, if you can deal with that then its fine

also another quick question:

i have a MSI Z97 GAMING 5 Socket 1150 it has 3x pci express slots can i put my graphics cards in say slot 1 and say slot 3 ? so they aint so close together ?

The top card will likely run 10 - 15c hotter than a single card.

At least it did for me when I ran xfire 290 Tri-x a few weeks ago in my Carbide 540 case.

Bottom card was around 67-68c. Top card hit 80-82c.

That was with 1 slot spacing between the 2 cards, and gpu fans limited to 50% for less noise.

What do u have now m8?

i have a pair of 980's, they came along at a good price and had the reference cooler which i prefer for dual cards, they run about the same temps as the tri-x but all the heat is dumped outside the case
