Hi all, i changed my 8800 to a 295 and ever since games are just perfoming badly and crashing? tried a number of drivers and i did remove the old driver properly. Even on some games like team fortress 2 for example before with the 8800 the 1920 x 1080 option was there but now with the 295 only the 1600 option is there. Games are crashing at random times and graphics are just so much worse than with my 8800. The only thing i can think of is maybe i should have formatted because of changing hardware, give it a clean fresh install. Should i do that because i cant take this card perfoming so poorly after spending 300+ on it. I just dont understand.

Thanks for any advice

If this came before your big apology, this would have been a pretty shameful post. :D

At least it'll show people around here that everyone has issues with graphics cards at some point regardless of brand.

Even more painful that you spent so much more than the nearest ATi card. :p

I'd go for a format, you'll save loads of time instead of trying to trouble shoot for hours or possibly even days.

With a format, if you're still having issues, it'll be likely to be a hardware issue I reckon. No necessarily with the 295 itself, if you've got your PC overclocked, return it to stick settings and then try it again if you haven't already.

Tried swapping it out for the 8800 using the same driver set?

Sounds like a software issue, although you say you removed the old ones properly, exactly how?

Nope removing the overclock hasnt helped, still getting same problems. Thanks for taking the time to help though lads. I really dont wanna have to format this.

Or perhaps trying the 295 in another system (friend/family, with sufficient enough PSU of course)

Sounds like a driver issue, download drivercleanerpro or whatever the current trend is, run it for everything nvidia, reboot, run it again in SAFE MODE, reboot, install latest drivers. if that doesnt work, do the same as above but with previous drivers, like .3 back from current :)

Right guys i know kind of the problem now which is weird, before i played games on 1920 x 1080 on my 8800. now my games crash on that res, but ive worked out if i run the games on 1600 x or lower setting they run smoothly, what does this mean? Is there something wrong with my monitor? or is my 700 watt psu no powerful enough. Thanks for the help guys

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! the gainward 295 i had id installed the software from off the disk that came with it. Well there was a small piece of software called Experttool..... This annoying software was changing resolutions on games when i went into them, street fighter 4 it was changing to 2500 x res!!!! And whatever settings i put the software of 1920 x 1080 etc, it changed automatically. 2 days but finally got to the bottom of it. Im now using the latest nvidia drivers and finally i can game the way its meant to be, thanks all and thank god its sorted.

:)
