295x2 Getting tempted to move on

I really have loved my 295x2, amazing card when games support crossfire and ive owned CF setups for years now and never minded the odd issue. Im really thinking of moving on as a few game of late have refused to use it to it potential. Forza Horizon 3 being the one that annoyed me the most. it still runs well but so sad it wont use the second gpu. Same goes for mafia 3 and looking maybe the case for a few games of the future. is it time to move on to a single gpu setup? Ideally i cant afford to upgrade but at the same time i have not being able to run my games to the full and the new games that don't support cf just wont run to the max with the 1 gpu.
What would you do?
In theory i want a 1080ti, but do i really want to spend that much?
id be happy if my cf setup worked on all games i reckon id be happy to go a year or two more if it did.

I had my 295x2 for a total of 6 days, just couldn't get it to run under 75c, so it would keep throttling.
Swopped it for 2x 970's & it was much better.

What sort of money you looking at spending to replace the 295?
With the launch of the 1080ti, 1080 & 980ti prices are going to drop so thats an option depending on budget.

As to AMD cards, I'm a little out of touch with them as it's been around 2 years since owning one.

My 295x2 doesnt go over 55c (got some getting modding done and mounted the cooler outside the case). Anyway looking around maybe a move to a used 980ti might be a good move. I dont need the power of a 1080ti although i could buy it wouldnt be a wise move.
Upgrade cost as little as possible, needs to outperform a 290x by quite a way but doesnt have to outperform my 295x2 when its working to its best (id prefer if it did) needs to last 1-2 years at 1080 running games at their best.
if 1080 used prices drop a bit i might be tempted, but 980ti looks the cheapest way to go!?

For seemingly quite a long while now, I've noticed people on here appearing to be less enthused over the state of multi-gpu performance with greater frequency, and although I personally haven't run beyond one gpu in my systems for a number of years, it doesn't give me confidence when reading about so many teething troubles on such a frequent basis. Personally, I'd go for a single gpu card, and yes, the 980Ti will offer the best bang for buck, though I'd also consider keeping an eye on deals for the 1070/1080.

I was so glad to go back to single card after my 7990.

I'd personally look for a second hand 1080 or go all out for a 1080Ti.

I recently grabbed a 980ti 2nd hand for £215 and the performance is fantastic. Beats my previous 970 sli setup which would be fairly similar to a 295x2? Might be worth looking out for.

when the 295x2 is working its more like a titanx, but when its down to 1gpu its a 290x, less then a 980ti.
I might wait a bit for a amazing deal on a 1080, but damn i want the ti version but want is very different to my needs .
Ill want to upgrade after a year with a 980ti i would have thought but the price of them is very appealing as after sale of mine its about the same.

Doing some research, its a wait for Vega type situation i think.
Mass effect seems to support sli and crossfire it so ill be fine for a good few months.

Hell, even the drivers have given a huge boost to the cores.

In my opinion wait for the Vega. I got a second hand FuryX to pair with the Nano, avoiding the whole GTX1080Ti.
When Vega comes out, I will access the situation. If is no good, I will sell the two Furys and going to grab a GTX1080Ti also. But until then, I can crack some settings up

I would advice you to do some basic upgrades to the 295X2 if you aren't bothered about warranty etc.
Buy Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, and their thermal pads (check online which thickness you need for the 295X2). Remove the cooler, and give everything a good clean. Re-apply paste and fresh thermal pads.

Put two good quiet fans with high static pressure in push pull configuration and you can put the rad on the rear slot in the case, as long as fresh air is blowing to the rad. No need to have it outside.
Overclock the CPU afterwards because they can take it, and you are good to go.

I thought everygame these days supported it, went and bought horizon 3 and nope doesn't use my second gpu. I wouldn't have bought the game if id have known. Like i said waiting on vega if not just for the price drop on cards that comes with a new release. If its supported i love my 295x2 and it was a absolute bargain at the time.
