You need 2 pci express slots 3.0 running at x16 otherwise you will get stuttering. There is not enough bandwidth for crossfire to run at PCI express 3.0 x8 with 2 R9 295x's.

Any recommendations with good spaces between the slots?

My 2 295's don't have any space between them on my MSI X99S, and they run cool so spacing isn't a problem with these cards.
