This LG monitor says that it is HDR10 compatible -

'To more fully realize content creators’ vision, this monitor is compatible with industry-standard HDR10 high dynamic range, supporting specific levels of color and brightness that exceed the capabilities of ordinary monitors.'

But when you look at the specs of the monitor, it only has an '8-bit' (6-Bit+FRC) panel and isn't particularly bright. 'Proper' HDR10 requires a 10-bit panel and high coverage of the Rec.2020 colour gamut, amongst other criteria.

So what is LG doing here? How can it properly display HDR10 content if it doesn't have the right panel, and only creates an HDR 'effect' (what does that even mean in reality)?

Could you shed some light on this @Daniel - LG ?

They got the price right; this is what we should be paying for a HDR monitor with a screen size much smaller than an equivalent TV. They just don't think we're ready for the fully-fledged features. :D

WAF makes some good videos about ultrawide monitors and this was one of the topics raised.

IIRC It's basically down to the fact their is no managing body like VESA in management of this standard yet. So they can get away with fabricating the truth.

I've noticed that the specs only state compatibility up to HDMI 2.0, not 2.0a, which according to Wikipedia is when HDR support was introduced. How can that work without that? Or is the missing 'a' just an oversight in the specs?
