This is probably old news for many but it was annoying me for some time so if it helps anyone else it was worth posting ;)

My wife's PC has an XFX 5830 in it, actually have two but could never get crossfire working on it. Anyway it permanently had random green pixels on the desktop but seems fine in games i.e. 3d clocks. I had a look around some time ago and couldn't find an answer and wondered if the card had had it.

Anyway I had another go today and found this http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/updated-amd-ati-2d-clock-guide.117633/

This 2d clock fix worked a treat. No idea why they set them so low by default but I'm not running 300/575 2dclock/memory and it is perfect.

Hope it helps anyone who experiences the same :)

Hi,

I'm new to ATI cards having had Nvidia ones up until the 7850 I'm now using. What is the reasoning behind changing the 2D clocks?

Oh and thanks for the link, looks like an excellent and easy to follow guide.

I would expect most people won't need this guide. However it does resolve one cause of corruption I'd you're seeing it. If everything looks fine this is not the thread you're looking for ;)

Would tweaking the 2D clocks assist in getting rid of the flickering seen in the video below, or is that solely down to using the wrong cables?

I'm getting exactly the same as the guy in that video, I'm using a VGA cable from my monitor (it only has a VGA connection, no DVI or HDMI) to my 7850 into a VGA-DVI adapter.

I learned this trick years ago on a forum somewhere. It's a good trick but need redoing if you upgrade the drivers or reinstall windows.

I just edited the bios on my card and it's permanent. However I'm not sure if there's a bios editor you can use for the more recent cards, as yet!!

@ Capodecina: I think you have a different issue if that's happening in-game (3d clocks).
