i am looking for a program to draw some plans for an extension to our house.
can anyone recommend an english program preferbly with a free trial.

IIRC CadVance.com offer their older software for free.

However, with something like AutoCAD, google will churn out lots of tutorial pages to help you out.

AutoCAD. It's the de facto standard. It's rather easy to learn as well if you know anything about the planar geometry you were supposed to learn when you were 12.
