2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR set that'll do 250mhz?

ballistix will do it. but the real question is: how long will it do it for???

Avoid Ballistix due to their failure rate.

Both Mushkin and GSkill offer PC4000 (250Mhz) modules, so they'd be your best bet :)

I had a set of Gskill HZ which did about 265iirc but certainly rated to do 250 minimum so if you want a guarantee thats a good place to start!

depends on the ram tbh??

if you're asking about the Gskill I think 2.6v was the stock, the ram should have a sticker on it telling you the stock voltage, start there and try slightly above or below if you're aiming for an overclock.

Bizzarely enough ram sometimes like lower voltages! Especially the gskill HZ.

sorry to hijack your post bud but iam after some new Ram 2GB of the stuff and iam really puzzled when it comes to choosing a set  so many people are starting to say DDR2 is the better stuff now iam not sure to get either 2GB something like Mushkin XP4000 or to get a new mobo and get some DDR2.
Is there anyone out there that can save me from drowning in all this confusion  or am i beyond help.

Welcome to the forums, you'll need to edit your sig, you can only use 4 lines of text :)

S939 only takes DDR ram, not DDR2, so thats that sorted :)

As for RAM you can quite easily get away with PC3200 on S939, and use a divider to keep the RAM in check while pushing up the CPU speed.

Hi, If 250Mhz is what you need then Mushkin Redline are rated at that with timings of 3-3-2-8 default , but they dont go much higher for me even with relaxed timings , G skill are good aswell with high fsb but relaxed timings and amd setups like tight timings for performance

Sorry about the sig  ive added a few lines on my current spec not to impressive i know but i know i need to upgrade so what would you recommend 2GB of DDR or a new Mobo and 2GB of DDR2 ? iam a gamer of course so i dont want loads of delay but ive been hearing DDR2 is finally starting to match some of the DDR stuff.
Any help would be great :)

If you wanted DDR2 you'd have to upgrade your CPU, Mobo and RAM, as your 3700 is S939 and all the S939 motherboards are DDR (Because the memory controller is on the CPU instead of the motherboard).

Unless you want a whole system upgrade, you'll have to stick with DDR, which is fine as your system is still pretty fast.

thx for the help.
Just one last thing what ram to go for? i dont quite have enough spare wonga for something like Mushkin redline but iam prepared to go up to about £160 which could get me something like OCZ 2GB PC4000 Dual Channel Gold GX XTC or the Mushkin stuff just down from redline.
If i had the chance to go DDR2 would you recommend i do it now or wait until DDR2 improves on itself a bit more.
Thanks for your help its very appreciated ;)

mushkin is higher rated these days, its apparently faster and only marginally more expensive, if you ask my mushkin PC4000 is the kit your after :p

Corsair do some as well but also the 3500ll's clock well. Most do 238 @ 2,3,2,5, 1t and so easy do 250 with relaxed timings.

would 3500 do 250mhz without any problem, surely require voltage increase?

Doubt it. Mine are at 2.67v and running at 238 when stock is 219 at 2.75v. These sticks are weird clockers though. The rev1.2 seem to be the best but my 1.3's seem to be just as good but they seem do be more stable the faster the timings and lower the volts. Some people at xtreme forums are trying to undervolt dfi expert boards to take these sticks lower than 2.2v.

If you get a set of these then your almost definitely going to get a set than can do 250 at cas2.5 @ stock volts or below

What set would you recommend for me?
I need 2gb to go with a S939 dual core opty or similar.
I realise A64 prefers tight timings so a set which is solid at 200mhz with the tightest timings possible (2-3-2-5?) is a must.

Should I just get the cheapest that can handle the above? Seems the OCZ is having problems. I heard the Patriot 2gb kits are popular in the states. Shame the DDR kit is not stocked here. What else would you recommend?
