Hey, i asked a few days ago was it worth going to 4gb on a 32bit (vista) system.

it was a yes coz ram is so cheap but a no coz u wudnt really use it ,

so i was finking maybe 3gb i myt benifit from as sumtiumes playing crysis etc i can be pushing the max for my ram....

one thing tho is : i have 4x DDR2 slots A B C D

A+C are used with 2x1gb were would i stick the other gb?

get a 1gb stick or 2x 512?

looking at it... be cheaper to just get the extra 2gb bring it up to 4gb than 3gb.. this is not for me but for a friend.

Took me a second to notice but take a look at your signature. :) Also I'm not sure you can argue that it is just a typo when your sentence should read "Where have I written bg? Have you never made a typo in your life?".

However to get back to the actual point of the thread, I'd just purchase another 2gb kit and use that because you will get the benefits of dual channel (~5% over single channel) and XP will see somewhere slightly over 3gb, it does depend on the size of your video cards Ram exactly how much Ram you will be able to address because a 32bit OS such as XP takes into account all physical Ram.

It is on a vista 32bit - and the ram is 640mb.

Ok then, same thing really. You'll see somewhere about 3.3gb of Ram if you have 4gb since you have the 4gb limit minus graphics card Ram. Given the price difference between 1gb and 2gb is pretty small then I'd just go with the 2gb kit and take the benefit of dual channel plus if you ever upgrade to a 64bit OS you would see all of the 4gb then. :)

I went from 2GB to 3GB, but only because I had the extra 1GB lying around spare and it was 2x512. It does make a nice difference in Crysis etc., but if I was buying I'd have just got another 2GB.
