I have 1gb (2x512) of corsair xms3200cl2 (in sig) which is running at 200mhz (stock).
I have recently received 1gb (2x512) of the geil value ddr400.

1. Is it worth having 2gb and running it as 2T

2. I have put the ram in and run it and for some reason on all different multipliers i cant get it to 200mhz. It runs at 157 when i dont tinker with bios and when i put the correct multiplier on in the bios options it knocks it down to 100.

Do i need to do anything with the timings becuase when i tried all 4 sticks i think the 2 types were running at different timings.

cheers

Both sets will need to run at the speed of the slower set and at 2T

But the small decrease in performance ( about 3% ) is made up for due to the fact 2Gb is better than 1Gb

EDIT : Just noiced yopu have a winnie core so you may need to run all 3 sticks at 333Mhz

yeh i stuck them in and it defaulted to 157mhz which is 333mhz ish

why wont they run at 200/400 with a winnie.

its not 3 sticks, its 4, 2x512 geil value ddr400 and 2x512 corsair xms3200 (in sig)

The winchester memory controller has trouble operating 4 sticks properly. Your options are either:
1) upgrade chip to venice or san diego
2) sell the ram and get 2 x 1gb sticks
3) live with 333mhz ram

Based on my testing, the 2 x 512 at DDR400 1T will obviously benchmark better. However, 4 x 512mb DIMMs, even at a slower data rate will give better performance in memory intensive operations. If you are using huge files in Photoshop, playing BF2, or anything that induces heavy page file activity you would probably do better with the 2gb. If you are only interested in pure RAM speed and benchmarks, stay with 2 x 512mb.

Yellowbeard I suggest you read the FAQ and change your sig :p

If you use over 1gb, change to 2gb. As has been said, the performance lost from having to use 2T will be nothing compared to the gain of not paging game data to disk.

Right, you'll be at 1:1 and you can upclock from there. Just keep in mind that you will not be able to OC as much with 4 DIMMs as with 2. Also, you may have to add voltage to Vdimm, raise latencies, etc.

this is being being a novice now....

2 different types of ram have 2 different timings.

Do all 4 sticks just level out at the same or are they all still different, if so is that a problem?

Prime95, Memtest, SnM.

I find the best stability testers are the apps you'll be using. I mean if you can run games 100% fine 24/7 but Prime95 tells you it's unstable there's no point clocking down again if all you want to do is play games.

im not asking about doing it for overclocking im just wanting ot make sure that my 4 sticks of ram is stable.
