Quick question...

I know XP only sees 3gb max, however the prices for the 4gb kits are so tempting.

Would games see benefits or as xp only sees 3gb max does that mean when playing games only 3gb will be used? Making 3gb wasted?

Thanks

You want 6 Gig for XP

If you have a 512 meg video card, XP will probably see about 3.2gig of memory and the rest will be wasted.

If you think you need more than 2 gig, I'd advise to flog the 2 gig you already have and plonk in a 4 gig set.

Complete waste unless you are moving to XP x64 or Vista x64.

As you say you'll have 3GB that can't be accessed on a 32bit OS.

As a generalisation no application running under windows XP 32bit can use more than 2gig of memory even with PAE, etc. enabled (there are ways to work around this but practically no software does).

I have 4gig on my windows XP 32Bit PC as its so cheap I might as well go for the max - I actually get 3326Mb free somehow even with an 896Mb GPU in there (device manager shows a few areas of memory mapping as shared).

So putting 6gig on a windows XP 32bit system is completely pointless as you lose the best part of 3gig.
