i dont know anything about ram... i want something to go in with my future upgrades:

x2 4400
asus a8n-e-ultra
ocuk 7800gtx

overclocking preferable but not needed

Well i know a lot of people wont reccomend this but i say get some crucial ballistix and hope you get a good set and if they pop all you have to do is use crucials well perfected RMA service

hi,

have a look at Mushkin 2GB DDR EM3200 Enhanced Performance Dual Channel Kit (2x1GB) CAS3 (991461) (MY-006-MK) £140 ish or G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit (F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ) (MY-008-GS) £152 ish.

I second the HZ, very good kit and good value to. Or maybe you would prefer the ZX thats another good kit. Depends if you want to overclock or not i guess as the HZ is rated at a higher speed than the ZX but the tradeoff is looser timings.

Save yourself a lot of trouble and buy summat else thats just as good.

  Are you going to manufacture this 'something just as good' yourself as you could stand to make a killing if you can do it without reliability issues :D

That said it seems like Crucial have run run out of spare kits for RMA so steer clear. All the others perform similarly in the real world so bring up a list on your monitor, close your eyes and stick a pin in your screen :D

i think im going to go for the g.skill and try to clock my 4400 up to about 2.55 using 232fsb and a 11x multiplier? thanks for all the help. :)

i ran a test on my OCZ EL DDR PC-4000 Dual Channel Gold Rev 2 (500mhz).

i ran it at pc3200 (400mhz) at 2.5 3-3-6 and also at its default pc4000 2.5 3-3-8 . at 500 mhz it gave a mere 700 3d2001 marks more than at 400 mhz .

i ran a similar test om my corsair XMS3200C2PT pc3200

at pc3200 (400mhz) 2.5 3-3-6 default and as pc4000(500mhz) at 3 3-3-8
once again it scored slighly higer at 500 mhz with slacker timings but , the improvement was negligable also .

so basically the price premium for pc4000 doesnt really seam worth it IMO .
