2gb graphics card vs 1gb graphics card xfire

Quick answer no.

The 2gb is how much memory it has for textures if you xfired 2x1gb cards it still only uses the 1Gb you would need to xfire 2x2gb cards to get 2gb in that xfire setup.

generally a single 2GB card will give you more flexabilty with max settings, if you go for one with decent speeds. if you go for 2 really quick 1GB cards then it would outperform it, but struggle with AA and that. (i think).
also, not all games have good CF/SLI support/scaling, so in my opinion if money allows, buy a single decent 2GB card.

This. Can't explain better myself.

1GB xfire/SLI is no longer a good solution.

Well i currently have a 6870 and thinking of adding another one until i came accross a 2 gb hd6900 series cards.. So am i better of selling my 6870 and just add a few £££ for a 2 gb 6950 or a 6970? Ill end up saving £50-70 if i did go for the 6950..

i made the mistake of getting a second HD6850 and regret it. i wish i had put that money to one side and saved for a decent single 2GB card.
i would save for 1 card you will be a lot happier in the long run.

Power consumption on a single 2 gb card is less i suppose?

What made you regret? Was it just a slight performance change?

i get a lot of stuttering in games i play, and i find that i have issues with AA (and equivilant) settings too. i dont know if its the 1GB of Vram or the lack of decent CF support.

Why is it when people have 'problems' with CF\SLI they come on here and advise others not to buy it. I'm sure more folks have no problems whatsoever(myself included)and in fact is it not the case that just as many folks have problems with one card as two. The only argument for not getting CF\SLi I would entertain would be the lack of vram which may affect 'hungry' games.:)

most games are bordering on 800-1gb of memory usage at that resolution with 4x AA on my nvidia cards that lets you monitor ram usage.

anything above 4x AA and your probably feeling the lack of texture memory

i cant even get it to run with 2xMSAA on F1 2010 :( BC2 can get proper sketchy in places if i turn it up over 2x (i think, havent looked at the settings as i really wanted to get F1 2010 working properly) fifa 11 just doesnt work, at all. it did before, but now it just doesnt, it hates my SB completly.

wierd something dodgy going on there i reckon , have tou tried disabling crossfire and see wether the performance is better?

yeh i did on my previous install of windows and it messed everything up. it didnt make it any better, but when i tried to re-enable it well, it didnt.
the annoying thing is, benchmarks would all suggest its working fine, so i can only assume drivers 11.6 are not right for my system/games.
