Hoping for a little help with this one.

I currently have 2GB Geil ULL and was wanting to chuck another 1GB, just for the hell of it (I am running Vista Premium 32, so I think it would only recognise an extra 1GB??).

My question is this - would I need to get x2 512 modules to retain the dual channel configuration or could I get away with chucking in an additional 1GB module?

Actually just read that mixing different types of modules can cause probs (manufacturer wise) so would probably have to stick with GEIL (may as well get the 2gb jit as it so cheap).

If you were to buy the extra 1GB in the form of 2x 512mb, then it would still run in a dual channel mode. However, I wouldn't suggest doing that, you may as well buy another 2GB of the same memory that you already currently have, since memory is so cheap at the moment and I am sure you will be looking to moving to a 64-bit Operating System very shortly. :)

Cheers Fire Wizard, I think that's what I'm gonna do. Like you said with prices as cheap as they are at the moment, may as well get another 2GB of the Geil, ready for when I upgrade to Vista 64.

Thanks again.:)

I have 3GB in a Vista 32 system - two 1GB sticks of Ballistix and two 512MB sticks of Geil ULL. I had to relax the timings from 4-4-4-12 to 5-5-5-15 to get it stable, but now it runs fine. I often play games whilst running Folding@Home under VMWare in the background, and the extra GB has made games quite a bit smoother in these circumstances - my memory usage can get up to 2.3GB.

I'd definitely get 4GB if you can though - I just stuck the Geil in because I had it lying around.
