Good afternoon,

Recently got a new job, so getting all my research out the way for my new upgrades come payday :)

I currently have a Radeon 6870 with 1GB of VRAM. I am running Eyefinity on three 1920x1080 monitors. I was going to pick up a second 6870 - however I am conscious that 5760x1080 does like to munch a lot of VRAM.

Other than from the extra processing cores in a 6950, would I notice a difference with the extra 1GB of VRAM?

So to sum up, would Crossfire 6870 be fine or would forking out the extra and get two 6950's give me a noticeable improvement? And would that improvement only be useful for a greater view distance?

5760x1080 = 6220800
2560x1600 = 4096000

I would imagine that your eyefinity uses a lot more vram than a single 30" setup. So you might take a look into this:

What happens when you run out of vram is lag spikes / stuttering: it doesn't always show up in average/adhoc min fps in traditional reviews, but it does exist, and can be both felt during playthrough and observed from frametimes.

I would recommend 6950 2GB x 2 CF as best bang for buck.

Thanks for the links - and yeah I'd imagine my Eyefinity eats even more VRAM :(

Games such as Metro 2033 I am playing on 1 screen as I'd rather have higher video settings on 1 screen than low settings across 3.

I'll look at selling my 6870 and picking up two 6950s. Is there anywhere on Overclockers that Forum members sell their old hardware?

He's been here for a year so all you need is 100 posts I believe to access the members market and to get the free P&P.

edit: Looks like it has changed since I last looked, you will need 250 posts to access the member's market and you will also need to activate your trust. Just go onto General Discussion and put your opinion or help people in the threads located in there, you will get 250 posts in no time.
