2GB Vram The Minimum. Really?

Last time I remember checking it was up to 1800mb, but when I saw someone claim 1200 I knew something was up and setup to take a screenie and that's what I got today after 30 minutes play
 
Skyrim used 2025mb vram in 3D at 1080p without mods.

Yeah BF3 highest i've seen is about 1500mb too with Aero turned off which adds about 200mb more useage.

I play skyrim with quite a lot of mods, and my 5970 is struggling with the lack of vram. So i really do need the 4gb 680 if i want to go the nvidia route.

Just got rid of my 5970 for 680 sli.

My 5970 only had 1gb per gpu. It struggled a little too much.

I only game at 1080p 120hz so 2gb sli is perfect.

Going by your Sig that looks like the 2GB per GPU 5970, lnoton should just about be ok at 1080p 680 sli 2GB and mods.
