Hey, so I'm building my first PC. I have around £2,000, it's flexable so little bit over I don't mind. I have to get everything. I'll be using it for gaming, programming and graphics, so it's gotta handle that easily. Heres what I got, can you help and see if you can get anything better for the price, thanks.

My list

Here's what I'd change:

24" OCUK monitor, scrub the WC kit (add a TT instead), and go for a bog-standard DDR2 mobo.

Oh and I might rethink the 9800GX2

welcome

firstly, how many nvidia graphics cards are you wanting to physically have?

secondly ,considered the 4870 or GTX280?

thirdly, try a ddr2 based MB, as ddr3 wont really be worth the extra cost

+1: esp. mobo/ram!!!!

sory i cut the total cost of, it was £2,039.81

- The PSU is overkill unless you plan to get another GTX 280 in the future, either way it will last you till the year 3000.

- Id go with ATI, but thats the best route with Nvidia^

-The case is very good, although it is down to tatse, along with the mouse and keyboard etc...

- as said, go with DDR2. DDR3 really is not worth the extra money.

oh, and ive never watercooled and know little about it, so i cant comment on that

Well you might want to wait for 4870 reviews, should be here in the next couple of days. Also is there any particular reason you're going for 7 series motherboard and not P45/X38/X48?

Regarding the above build, looks fine apart from the things I pointed out. Although any reason why you're getting 4x1GB sticks and not a 4GB kit of 2x2GB? PSU is an overkill too.

probably wrong, but i thought they were just for crossfire? i assumed he was planning on sli due to his PSU being so huge.

tbh i like that setup C64, get a lot extra than what he wants, and u can easy add another 4850 when things get a little laggy, and theres room in the budget if he wanted another one from the start.

not rly worth spending the full 2k on a pc, as u can get one that performs almost as well at a lower price.

4870 and quad price drops

Depending on when you want this, you may consider waiting for :

1 - the CPU price drops from intel. Expected Q3 (July onwards)
2 - the 4870 from ati

I'd not personally go with the q9300 either, get the q9450 or the q9550 after the price drop.

As you plan on overclocking, perhaps even consider a g0 Q6600 ?

Yea you got to get a q6600 it's more than enough for ages right I went p45 chipset but if you want crossfire go x38 or x48 chipset.I just felt like adding the g25 because it brings racing games alive I suppose and I want one too.All personal preference just an idea of what 2k can get you I suppose.

Well if your looking to overclock then Q6600 and a P45 board (asus seem to have the best atm), you can then run crossfire 4870, P45 board is duel PCI2 *8 so shouldnt notice any decrease in performance compaired to the X38/48 boards.

Add yourself a decent air cooler Ultra - 120 or TT and you should get 3.2 easily and if you have a 1/2 decent Q6600 3.6. Ram you will need 6400 no point getting faster unless you are looking to go past 3.6, Geil / Gskill / corsair whatever takes your fancy really.

Thanks for the advice people, I'm probably gonna buy it at the end of July early September so the prices should drop quite a bit. I'm really thinking to droping the DDR3 mobo and ram, it's just not nessesary is it. I'll wait for the reviews on the 4870 before I buy anything, I'm not in a rush really. When do they come out?
