Hi,

My current rig is 10 years old and needs replacing as it is struggling with some software I use - Adobe Premiere Pro and Lightroom at times (video editing and photography). As well as this I want to play Flight Simulator 2020.

Is it better to go for Intel or AMD with this kind of budget.

Obviously I'm waiting for the 3000 series Graphics Cards.

Are there new AMD CPUs coming out soon and is it worth waiting for them too? I don't mind waiting until the end of this year but I want to buy a new Computer before the end of the year.

If you can wait it probably worth waiting with new cpu's to be released end of thd year. You could still get a new 3000 when released.

What is your system spec and res for gaming

A 3900X and a RTX 2070super would be the sweet spot on price/performance now although in a couple of months the 4900X and 3070 should be available for a similar outlay.

If your system isn't totally unusable then I'd echo what is said above, and wait until the AMD CPU/GPU launches are done, as well as the Nvidia one in a few days.

Bonus is presently RAM prices, and SSD prices are still falling so the longer you wait the less it is going to cost you, or the more you can put towards better CPU/GPU, or other parts.

I noticed you didn't mention what resolution you are using, is it 4k or 1440p?

Yeah, I know it's always trendy to say wait for something better but with the 4000 series AMD CPU's and 3000 series Nvidia GPUs out in the next month or two waiting seems like a particularly good idea if you can!

Looks like the next-gen AMD GPU's are out before Xmas as well.

I'm a bit worried about pricing of the new products though as everything's been a bit crazy since lockdowns started at the beginning of the year.

Thanks for the replies. At the moment I have a 1920x1080 27" Monitor. I suppose I may as well go for 4k if buying an entirely new Computer.

I have a 1TB SSD and 4 1tb/2tb SATA drives.

Yeah, if I had a £2k budget for a new PC and my current monitor was 1080p I'd definitely be looking to spend about £500 of that on a new 1440p/4K monitor.

Thanks. The £2k is just for the Computer. I've not included a new Monitor in the budget as I've yet to decide on a Monitor. I need one that will be excellent for Photography editing and gaming.

Yeah if you're happy to wait, definitely wait until all the next-gen stuff is out from Nvidia, Intel and AMD (both GPU/CPU) over the next few months :)

+1 to all above - as long as there are no supply shortages again (and this seems unlikely as the world has shrugged and adapted) it seems logical to wait given your circumstances and imminent releases.

OK, i get a red alert that i'm mentioned in a thread - and when i get here i see your post has been hand picked for editing purposes.

No need to elaborate - you'll be edited again - i'm going to go out on a very well supported limb and guess it was search related. :p (i don't get email alerts so no clue).

Either way - you've probably pushed us into 2021 to try get you back into the other forum. Ya, B***er!

@Plec

Surprised mods haven't deleted Puget systems link. Then again realised how many link or should link it and what OCUK should be doing point blank... Specially for sales .
8 Pack or staff should be all over it. Scam and ehauler doesn't do it too

Maybe because the site is American (not direct competition) and the piece makes a solid point relevant to the thread. Perhaps the mod took the trouble to read the TL;DR and made a sensible judgement call.

Pickle Riiiiiiiiiick!!!

Love that episode - wife bought me the figurine flipping the bird as a joke - but it's now in my study. I occasionally like to stick it front of TEAMS and quickly turn on the camera if i strongly disagree with what's being proposed. It's proved very useful defusing tensions - it's the gift that keeps on giving.

It's a bit of cliche - but it is my favourite episode.

Rickmancing the Stone has it's moments - the below is funny, when in context (hopefully you know the episode):

Summer: How come you guys dress like you're in a theme-park stunt show, but these guys wear khakis and hockey jerseys?
Hemorrhage: After the "boom-boom", some adapted to the new truth, and some chose to huddle near the boomy holes, clinging to the lie of the beforefore times. The raidy-rays rotted them away, leaving only their love for the vertvertisements on billyboards.
Summer: Jesus Christ, did the "boomy-booms" blow up all your "wordy-word books"?
Hemorrhage: You mean dictionaries?
[Four mutants charge towards Summer and Hemorrhage. They shoot and kill all of them. Hemorrhage leans over to look at the fallen billboard advertisement. He touches an image of a young boy]
Hemorrhage: I think I was a child before the boom-booms. I think I looked like this.
[Hemorrhage in quiet reflection - while Summer nonchalantly looks at it.]
Summer: Want to ***s on it?
Hemorrhage: Get out of my head.

Obviously I'll wait for the new graphics cards as, for instance if I paid £500 for a 2070 today, I could pay the same amount for much better performance from the 3070.

Is it going to be the same for CPUs though, I mean if it costs £400 for a Ryzen 3900X... when the new CPUs come out, will it be the same price for a better chip?

Zen3 will almost certainly be the overall champ, well one of the many cpu's made with Zen3 cores will.
I would wait till both the new round of vide cards and cpus come out, not long now - just a few months.

Depends on how much the Pound to the Dollie is (gets missed a lot on here ), supply and demand and the. Operational costing. Corsair increased 10% across the board a while back to cover PSU downturn due to shortage etc . Then Covid hit and demand shot up even more.

AMD is the best price to performance so personally I'd wait until the new 4000 series AMD GPUs and stick in an RTX 3080 with that and call it a day. This would be an absolute beast of a system.
