£2k got me..

I'm not sure i've not messed around with logging for ages but i always thought it was better than that, will check it out tonight need to use Vag-com myself anyways.

not really, stage 2 doesn't do much to bottom end at all, but allows more top end due to the front mount dramatically reducing heat soak and the exhaust system (mainly the larger downpipe) allowing better gas flow

Still, top of fourth in these has got to be what, 110mph?

What's the point of the bigger turbo, front mount etc then if all you get is better post 110mph performance :p

You can't use the argument of better throughout the range rather than just peak figures as some would as if the cars are even up to that speed it can't be making much difference!

Just seems a bit naff to me, I'd be disappointed if I were the other guy.

The k03s isn't really "bigger" as such, it has a slightly larger compressor but the same turbine. The k03s can be pushed slightly further than the k03 but not by much at all, maybe 15-20bhp peak, the main benefit is it is seen to have improved engine efficiency.

Anyway, I do see your point and would also be hacked off if I'd spent an extra ~2k and not seen a decent improvement as midrange should also be better in theory!

You get the adjustable ones but they are weaker than solid metal ones for obvious reasons, also a waste of money if you're capable of cutting and welding up your own ones to necessary length

I can't comment on the front whiteline ARB, I can't see it making much difference in terms of handling at the front personally, although the rear whiteline ARB is an EXCELLENT handling mod for VAG hatchbacks

I don't see why there's uproar at a claimed 6.5s to 60, that's pretty normal for a remapped 150ps mk4 gti with nothing but a re-map

lol@having to rag a FWD for that 0-60 time

Having a history of quick FWD cars I would expect you to have to be quite aggressive to achieve that sort of time. You either end up bogging down or lighting the tyres up with a turbocharged fwd making it difficult to extract a good time.

A Renaultsport Megane is quoted as being 6.3 to 60mph and a R26R 5.9 seconds.

Id expect both of those to be a mile ahead of a soft GTI.

I don't really find it a problem (albeit my car is more powerful and lighter), as long as it's completely dry mind you - any damp conditions and it's a no no.

It is a bloody handful in low gears though, pulling to the left like a mofo when the turbo kicks in at 2krpm. Keeps things interesting :D

ill devise up a way of getting a vid up maybe (only have camera phone can i just stick it on youtube if the file ends up being massive?)

the vagcom logs ought to be interesting too

well see, well see

I'm all for seeing some vids, obviously :)

I wanna make the most of my ko3 really too without spending a fortune, I wouldn't know what I'm doing messing with the map on the car though so will do a few little bits and bobs such as TIP, recirc valve, hoses and if I can get one cheap enough, bigger downpipe and sportscat.

Even though the ko3 is a bit of a baby turbo I still get a fair chunk of midrange and I've had it a year and it still makes me smile. It's not a fast car by any stretch of the imagination but still surprises me at times.

games are off for a little while

after lowering it i had arb and driveshaft contact, nothing really notable. i started making arrangements for new drop links (hassle)

went to take the car out lastnight and the noises had changed and were not good at all.

after limping it home i found my lower intercooler pipe has been dragged down (full lock to the left... at a guess)

ive sourced new drop links at a very reasonable rate and theyre arriving tomorrow. ill have to mod them tomorrow night and gett it fitted up. then sort the piping and may even lower the rear a shade more

new bushes pressed in. felt lovely

slower to work on. very delicate work. think about an alloy engine block and bolting things back on to it. one mistake could be very costly

with VWs i get hold of elsawin, the vw workshop software, on the porker i have an old photocopied workshop manual that covers the previous model and the next model. mine is an early kjet S2... so a hybrid and that dont help either

nerve wracking! esp when it comes to buying parts. so dear and you need to be so careful about whether youre getting it for the older or new model

6 months on.

its now on 164k. i think its cleared c.16k since i bought it. i did drop a coil pack and run out of petrol on the same night last summer. other than that its not skipped a beat

still on the oe clutch and my god this car has been given stick. numerous run what you brung days last summer when i was endlessly tweaking the ecu.

not been on a dyno yet but id be very suprised if its not beyond 200bhp (dub scene folklaw says a ko3 turbot wont go beyond 190bhp but this car has makes civic Rs look as if theyre going backwards and has seen beyond 150mph)

the reason this was dragged up, though, was this photo

with a laptop and software and a cable via the obd2

"200bhp" would be from more boost, more ignition, fuelling changes to match where necessary and basic optimisation of the intake system. exhaust and intercooler are standard still

id be suprised if a ko3s turbod 1.8t was making much more than 1 bar after 5krpm and it wont even be close to a BAR at 6k
