2KW Super Flower - Defunct now?

So here's the deal....

I ordered a 2KW SF PSU from OCUK and it will be delivered today, given my medal winning performance at the timing awards, it seems that EVGA have confirmed that the new 1080's will NOT be capable of more than 2 cards in SLI.

This scuppers my megalomaniac plans for a 4 way, dual loop, OC'd beast, as I had planned.

Here is my question; (a) am i ever going to need the power should nVidia do away with 4 way for good (they may not i know, but for arguments sake) and (b) will i suffer any penalties by running a PSU that now has an unused overhead of 800w? Other than power draw.

Ofcourse u won't lose performance. The PSU is very efficient across its entire range.

Nvidia are not stopping 4 GPU at all. Infact Pascal can support 8 way in its spec. Maybe just current planned skus can't.

Hey 8,

Mine wasn't a question of performance loss, more a question of sound at lower power. Don't get me wrong, this PSU is a beast and I'm very happy! It does beg the question about lower power requirements for newer GPU's meaning lower PSU wattage...

I'm not so sure about the 8 way thing, that's only through nVlink and that's not for the consumer market, unless at some point they decide to switch out SLI with nVlink and actually sort out the scaling issues beyond 2 cards...

While I have you I am looking for colored options for the PSU cables, what would you recommend?

The best option is Pexon custom braided. Then u can have exactly as you wish and the finish is second to none.

Pexon we use for 8Pack systems.

I have been running the SF2KW at low load on my POST test bench and have very minimal noise (basically inaudible) from the fan by the way, very impressed!

jaytwocents confirmed you can use more than 2 way sli and evga have removed the post from there forum, due to the person being misinformed. nvidia themselves are only making a 2 way bridge i think was what they were saying, other people like evga and asus can make 3 and 4 way bridges.

Jumper be careful commenting on NDA hardware. All this stuff is speculation and those who know can't comment. Including EVGA or any vendor. Wait and see.

Yes the PSU is running cool and quiet. Crazy efficiency for the headroom. I had 3kw out of my unit in peaks no problem.
