2MB connection downloading at 1MB

Hi,

I have been getting full speed 250KB/s up untill recently when i have started getting 100Kb/s, me and my mate were getting the same demo and i was getting half the speed. I have ran a few speed tests, the one on NTL:HELL said i had 1.92Mbps but the speed test at bandwidthplace said i have 900kbps. When i downloaded a tool from NTL's server i got 200KB/s download speed yet i can only get 100KB/s at other servers.

I really dont want to ring NTL so any help or things i could try would be great.

Also is this speed correct?, my mate says his says 100.0MBps

the speed in your image is correct, thats the speed your computer is connected to your network. You've got a 10mbit metwork your friend will have a 100Mbit network. This makes no difference to your internet speeds all that'll effect is the speed you can transfer files accross your internal network.

With regards to the internet speeds i'm not sure, it could be anything best sitting tight till tuesday or wednnesday and seeing if its still the same, if it is raise a fault.
 
Cheers guys, thanks for the info regarding the network speed, i was trying allsorts to make it faster :o .

Tim, i tryed the BT speed test you posted and got "1628 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second. "

I just find it strange that we were both getting the same files and each time i was getting half the download speed and on the odd speed test we tryed i got half again.

EDIT: just realised i have Shareaza running at 45KB/s when i took that test

Ive just taken this test now and i get this rubbish speed, my mate took the same test a few hours ago and got 1900 and odd.

Cheers tolien, i tryed a 10MB file from fuller.zen.co.uk and got 240KB/s :) , so i dont know why im getting half speed from other servers :confused: .

Edit: getting the same speed for all the other files as well.

Poor servers, congestion, you aren't going to get full rate from every server.
US-based speedtests are a waste of time too.
 
The thing is me and my friend were gettin the same file as he sent me the exact link via msn, he said he was getting 245KB/s and i was only getting 100KB/s. I put it down to bad luck but then when we were both getting another demo from a different site, again the exact same server and again i was getting 100KB/s where as he was getting 240 odd KB/s :confused: .

It'll make a big difference if he ever upgrades to the 10Mb service in the future.
