Morning all.

I recently rebuilt my machine to accomodate some new mobo cooling and whilst doing so I took advantage of it being in bits to move my second R9 290 from slot 2 on my asus rog crosshair V formula Z to slot 3, the rationale being that slot 2 is a PCIEx8 and slot 3 is PCIEx16

Since I did this the second card has not been functioning.

Is there any reason for this you can think of? I don't particularly want to strip the machine down again as the heat exchanger is on the outside of my house and its a bit of a pain.

nah the bios says there is nothing in that slot at all. I have tried reseating, switching power cables to the card. Going to have to drain the loop I reckon.

Do what Elrasho said but truthfully I will be surprised if that sorts it. Do the obvious pushing and pulling to get it to recognise but doesn't look good and possibly a duff PCI slot.

Well we have our answer, you know that new cooling block I put in .... the tiniest little drop of water seems to have taken up residence underneath the backplate I fitted to the second card and there is this small but very telling little explosion residue on the inside of said backplate plus a further dusty residue thats exactly the same colour as mayhems red dye.

I think we all know what has occured here :(
