since i moved to dual core i have this weird problem every now and again.

the 2nd core will just max out, and although i can move the mouse cursor, no apps will ever load, nor can i shutdown the pc. it's like it cant find the cpu power to do anything else even though the 1st core is not doing anything.

seems to be random, and it doesnt matter if i'm overclocked or stock.

when it happends i can ctrl+alt+del and it shows the SYSTEM process at 50% cpu, which is just the 2nd core at max. the RAM being used is negligable 252k or whatever it always is.

XP pro
e6600
asus p5w dh deluxe - tried numerous drivers
x1900 xtx - tried diff drivers

anyone seen anyone else with this problem? it only happened since i went Intel :( is the AMD god cursing me? :o

Not that this will help, but mine did this yesterday for the first time (had an x2 since it came out). The CPU usage was on 0% but the graph showed the 2nd core at 100%. PC was lagging badly.

Just rebooted and its been fine since.

i got hold of Process Explorer fom Sysinternals, hopefully next time it does it, i can check exactly what is cauing it :)

..... *sits here waiting for it to happen* :o

none of the svchosts show as being cpu active when it happens. :/
precess explorer shouws the system prcess as being connected to some scvhost processes though. i'll grab that hotfix and test, thanks :)

bledd: SVC not SCV :)

If the System process is taking 50% of the CPU (i.e. 100% of one core) then it sounds like you've got a rogue device driver installed somewhere.
