Hey guys, not the most technical when it comes to pcs, but trying to dual screen with my primary monitor and a projector as my secondary but the 2nd DVI port will never show an output regardless of what its output is. Wondered if it could be a software issue but not sure how to deal with it?

Thanks in advance, and hope this was the right place to post

Which 6800? There are quite a few of them in the series, which model do you have?

Have you got Hydravision installed?

Does the projector show anything if you use the same cable/port as you have plugged into the monitor (without the monitor attached ie projector only)?

Nope mate, should I?

and yeah, projector works fine in the 1st port, as does anything else i'll plug into it, it's just the second port will not output anything even after trying different cables.

It definitely used to work too. Feeling it might be hardware?

First things first I would swap the outputs and see if the projector comes up on the first port and your monitor the second

Where the would normally be an option to enable 2nd screens and extend/duplicate etc, there is no option

In AMD control centre there is also no option, just similar to windows display settings where I can identify monitors etc but 2nd monitor is just not being recognised

Basically yeah, no matter what display settings I go to there's never options for extend to secondary monitor etc, and can't find any settings that detect a second monitor exists.

Is this hardware related?

Could be, unless a 2nd PC to test the card in its hard to tell.

Some older GPU's used to show as having 2 outputs in Windows Device Manager but not for while with newer GPU's/Windows.

In fact a modern GPU may still do so if older OS but I am on Win 8.

That's sounding like a hardware failure, as at the very least you should be able to move your working monitor/cable from the first to the second DVI port and get an output without doing anything more than rebooting.

If you've tested the projector in the first port and that works, then the only thing that's faulty seems to be the card.

AFAICT there is no way to easily disable a monitor. If they are connected they should show up under CCC -> Desktop Management -> Creating and Managing Desktops -> Detect Displays.

Do you get the BIOS screen or Windows startup animation on both screens? If so, that points towards software issue, if you only get BIOS on one screen that points more towards hardware issue.
