Hey People,

While i am waiting for the good people of overclockers to send me a longer SLI bridge, i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions with my 2nd Pci16 slot

I have a Asus P8P67 Pro Motherboard with 2 GTX480 Graphic card (both gigabyte 1 Special edition offer and the other is the SOC one)

Forgetting the sli bridge for a moment, If i place the GTX480 Soc in the top slot and the other in Slot 2 , device manager just doesn't recognize the second one. (even though it has power , the nice row of yellow lights are on) If i move the 2nd card to slot 3, it does. (hence Ive asked for a longer sli bridge) So after 4 days of trying drivers , trying each one in slot 1 etc, it seems to me that slot 2 just isn't working. or am i missing something?

Maybe while im waiting ill try just one card in slot 2? maybe thats the definative answer?

Anythoughts or any more information i need to supply?

I assume you have connected the power connectors from the PSU to the graphics cards? One 6 pin and one 8 pin each.

Is you power supply a high power, high quality 850W plus unit?

Try putting the other card in slot 1 and the SOC in slot 2 and see if it is recognised.

Try it with just one of the cards in slot 2.

If this doesn't work it sounds like the slot is knackered.

You don't want to be using the third slot. For it to run at x4 you have to disable the 2 PCI-E x1 slots, the USB 3.0 ports from the motherboard header and ESATA (see page 2-15 of the user manual).

OCZ GameXStream 850W PSU - Silent 120mm Blue LED Fan 4x PCI-E 6x SATA, but i think thats really pushing it, perhaps.

Do you think it might be power related as it works in slot 3? maybe takes less power there perhaps.

On using slot 1 and 3 (set at x4 in Bios) , does that mean my gtx480 Soc isnt running correctly?

Ok i will try just one card in slot 2 and see what happens. I just got the motherboard from Overclockers and installed a massive Venom Cooler so didnt really want to send it back.

At the moment i have the soc in slot 1 and the normal in 3 no sli bridge and getting amazing results on performance test 7.

850W should be enough. You should have an 8 pin and a 6 pin power connector connected to each card.

Running at x4 shouldn't be a problem:

The problem with running the bottom slot at x4 is that it disables other devices (the 2 PCI-E x1 slots, the USB 3.0 ports from the motherboard header and ESATA).

Have you got anything else plugged into any of the PCI express slots on the board? (Besides the GFX cards) you May be using too much bandwidth depending on how your board works, the primary pci-e x16 slots should go directly to the CPU and split to x8 if there is another card inserted in the other x16 slot on the board (If this makes sense). If you are using anything else in the slots which make use of any of them x16 lanes then it may be interfering. If you are not then try forcing the first slot to x8 which should free up another 8 lanes for the second GPU in the other slot.

The 3rd slot, being on x4 is more than likely running through the south bridge along with the x1 pci-e slots (Typically) and other slots (PCI etc), then to the CPU. Someone correct me If I'm wrong lol. Seriously, if I am wrong I would like to know as this is my current understanding

Right :)
No i am not using any other slots at all only using 2 GFX cards. so i think running the gtx 480 soc as the main graphics card at x16 and the normal GTX -480 at x4 to take care of Phys x minor stuff might be my best option. Ill do a performance test when i get the Sli Bridge.
While i try different things, I cant see where i might be able to force slot 1 to be x8.

Still gotta try a single GFX card in slot 2, but im sure i tried that 4 days ago and could not get the monitor to come on.

As far as using slot 3 and disabling some areas that i really dont think i'll use atm seems to be the way ill have to go, or send the MB back.

Really appreciate all your comments.
