I used to have a circa 1.5k Nad stereo system a few years ago which i had to sell unfortunately. Really loved the sound it used to output and as much as I would love to buy another one my needs have changed as I'm now looking at AV kit.

I am looking to buy a 2nd hand AV receiver and a set of 5.1 speakers. The speakers need to be satellite size (not bookcase or floor standing)

I need to have at least 3x HDMI ports, network, bluetooth and HD sound. I don't have a 4K TV just a 1080P led Panasonic. Budget is as cheap as possible to be honest.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what I should be looking for as been out the loop for many years.

If you are going 2nd hand the the classified section of avforums is where to hang out. W.r.t to the speakers, a set of MA mass seem to be highly regarded and old enough to be available second hand.

In terms of the amp, pretty much anything a few years old will cope with all of the 5.1 outputs, such as Dts-ma, and be good value for money. The Yamaha 673/675 would pair well with the MAs and should be relatively cheap given it is now a few years old.

as with anywhere , just be careful with secondhand equipment , i got stung on avforums with a faulty amp

have a look at the kef 301 speakers

personally i'd only buy 2nd hand amp if it still as warranty, because i bought a 2nd hand amp before and it died after 5 months, had no warranty, so it was a waste of money....

Agreed - receivers can die without warning so a warranty is a must for me. There is far less that can go wrong with a pair of second hand speakers. The AV Forums are good and Gumtree can turn up some real bargains from people who want a quick sale.

Thanks for all of the replies, good mention about 2nd hand stuff. Maybe I should buy speakers 2nd and a new AV amp anything under 250 pounds which will suit my needs?

i have a denon avr x520bt which cost £220 new.

personally i'm finding it great value for money, very good sound quality, loud!!!, great features.
