2nd hand HL2

Hi,

I bought a copy of Half Life 2 off the forums and need to register the serial number to my steam account, how can i register it? Will I have to pay the $10 fee? If so I might as well have bought the original game for £10!? Can you guys help, cheers.

Open Steam > Games > "Activate a product on steam"

You shouldn't have to pay anything to register the key.

If it's already registered however, you're out of luck.

It's one of those games I'd never buy second-hand. I bought it supposedly new from someone on an auction site for a very cheap price but I was genuinely *shocked* when the process went without a hitch.

Yep its 2nd hand..

What does that mean? I was told that all I needed to do was send a photo of the serial to steam and they would register it to me? Has anyone done this before?

You can get it sorted but it's a long-winded process.

To be honest, whoever sold it to you should talk you through it

I'm not sure of the exact details on how it's done, or I'd be more helpful...

That's all you'll need to do, and shouldn't cost you anything either. The process is all here:

Think you'll need to get a support number, so will need registering there.

What the seller could have done, is just given you all the account details for the registered Half-Life 2, however if they had things still in their account they didn't want to lose, then this way is the only way.

Yep, but Steam said they wont move the key without the original receipt (I scanned and wrote my user on the label). So basically I have been sold a useless game unless the account details are given to me. Its so annoying all I want to do is play a game! Surely this must drive people to pirates (I am not condoning this whatsoever by the way).
