Well i got my first ipod last christmas (2005) as a present, it then started playing up about 6 months later and we gave it to the guy we bought it from, he had it for several months until we got it back still not repaired, the hard drive died about november so contacted apple myself and they sent UPS to get it from me. So did all that and about a week later i was sent a new ipod, i have had this for about 3 months now and the new ipod is dying/dead, not quite sure at the moment, the warranty from my old ipod has been carried over to this one and expired at christmas.

Is there anything i can do to either get money for the ipod from apple or for them to sort it out?

any comments will be much appreciated

When you say guy you bought it from, is he a proper retailer?

If he is you should be able to get a replacement/refund under Sales of Goods act and being fit for purpose, lasting a reasonable length of time etc.

Apple aren't in a position where they have to refund you I'm afraid, it's down to the retailer for this sort of stuff, Apple will just repair/replace it inside the manufacturers warranty period.

In my experience, if Apple do a swap under warranty then the new unit's warranty becomes reset to one year from the date you receive it.

For example, when my Shuffle stopped working properly and I returned it to the Regent Street store, they printed me off a new invoice with a new warranty date of 1 year from that date onwards.

Things might be different for exchange through the post, or other retailers' arrangements however.
