Hey all

I am trying to use a second monitor with my setup, I am using an r9 390 MSI card, I have my monitor working through the DVI.

The second monitor I am trying to use only has VGA so I have bought a DVI adaptor and connected this up but get no signal.

I have tried my normal monitor in both ports which works and I have also got my power performance at high.

Does anyone have any suggestions which I could try.

Thanks :)

what have you done to the screen resolution setting?

i have a good monitor connected via dvi and a smaller no name via the onboard vga(vga only monitor) and to get them both working together i had to obviously make sure my board had igp selected aswell, but the smaller monitor set to a lower than recommended size at 75hz as 60hz kept getting no signal..

just have to play round with the settings

have you actually opened the catalyst control center (or windows display properties) and checked that both screens are detected and enabled and that you have set the correct desktop mode (extended/clone etc)

Check the card manual, but it's likely the DVI port you're using is digital-only, and so you can't use a VGA->DVI adaptor.

Try the VGA monitor with the adaptor in both ports - a lot of the time only one DVI port will support analogue output per card.

Yes I have been in properties but it does not detect the monitor.

unfortunately it Does not work in either port.

My screen that I use is set at 1080p at 60Hz, I cant set anything on the smaller monitor as it does not detect

Can you adjust to 75hz?

While I use 60hz on my better monitor it wouldn't allow me lower than 75hz for the crappy screen no matter what the Rez chosen, the crappy screen is also connected to onboard as I said which in my case is hd4400.

IIRC a dvi to vga, the dvi should have four pins by the flat one.
or you would need an active digital (dvi) to analog (vga converter)

I have an adaptor with the 4 pins next to the flat pin but you cannot use this on a r9 390 as there is no holes next to the flat hole of the back of the card

i dont know this this cheap one is meant to be 75hz, but connected to this computer and the other monitor is seems to be lol..

maybe look for a cheap 2nd hand monitor with dvi and try that?

im quite lucky i guess, my gtx 750 has both dvi with - and dvi with :-: and the cable i use that came with an old build is the dvi - , but then my small monitor is connected to the motherboard... actually have you thought about trying that?
