2nd monitor not running at native resolution

Hi,

I just connected a 2nd monitor to my laptop. Its native resolution is 1280x1024, however if I set it to this, it does not run full screen, with large black margins at the left, bottom and top. The best it seems to do is 1280 x 960, which looks ok, but slightly blurry.

Any advice?

This is all on windows 7 btw.

What graphics card/chipset has the laptop got? It's possible that its simply not powerful enough to drive two displays at the resolution you want.

Is it an old Intel integrated card?

It's a pants little widescreen laptop that can't output at that resolution, gutted.

are you sure its not running full screen at the native res?

I say that because depending on what size/res the 1st monitor is, it will sometimes put black bars at the top and the bottom of the desktop background image making it 'look' like it's not running full screen
