hi

i just got a RX580 gpu and it works great and my main display is via HDMI but when i connect my 2nd display up it wont detect. always had it VGA to DVI into gpu, but gpu this time was DVI-D so i got a small adapter

DVI-I/DVI-D adaptor DVI-I female 24+5 pin to DVI-D male 24+1 pin

and it still wont detect even tried putting a displayport adapter on the DVI lead from monitor and even that wont detect.

i would very much be grateful if anyone knows what im doing wrong please?

thanks

Yes i would say you are in the right section.. My guess would be the adapter, the monitor is using analog connection where as your gpu only has pure digital connections so it has to be an active and not a passive adapter. Also there are many crappy ones on the web for sale that barely works and are extremely finicky. Usually a proper adaptor would cost you the same as a used 1080p 24 inch with proper connectivity would on the second hand market so i really wouldn't bother.. i hope you get it sorted though.

aww :( shall i just try buy a 4m vga to dvi-D lead to go into the gpu instead of adapter. would that work better! i was trying to find an adapter in the first place to avoid re wire round desk

if it were me in your shoes i would ditch the screen and buy a used with hdmi or DP connectivity for the cost of an active adapter.

i got an adapter to work and my 2nd monitor is finally working but i need to buy another vga to vga lead as i had to link 2 vga leads because the other wasnt long enough and that might be whats causing this strange slight ghostly effect trail on text and icons if you can see in the pic
