So, was starting FIFA Club today and joined the dressing room. Could see the other peeps there but I couldn't fo anything so quit the game and went back to XMB and started the game again.

Then I get an error message before the game could start. Can't remember the code atm but will get it in the morning.

Apparently, the code means the firmware has been corrupted, and so,, is essentially the PS3 version of the RROD.

My first PS3 was replaced under warranty with this refurb on my doorstep after it got quite noisy and ramped up fans quickly.

With this now appearing and the warranty now expired, I have signed up to Continuous Play.

I then restarted the PS3 and the game loaded fine but from research, when this error appears, the console is about to die and it will load games but very rarely.

Now, I'm not blaming Sony, but we'll see how the service under continuous plays stands up against the 1st rate warranty service.

Hence, this thread.

Just a quick question. How long is the actual sony warranty with a new PS3? Is it a yr or 3 yrs?

My 60GB PS3 is out of warranty now and I am considering selling it and just buying a brand new 80GB/160GB model with full warranty just for peace of mind really. Apart from backwards compatability with PS2 games, do the newer model PS3's have any other differences?

Let us know how you get on.

They have no memory card slots and 2 less USB ports. They also use considerably less electricity so therefore do not get as hot and hence are often said to be quieter.

to skippi: sorry to hear that mate, continuous play from what i've heard is exactly the same as the Sony warranty in terms of the way your error is dealt with. All it is is that you're paying a monthly fee to avoid the large sum for a repair. The console will still go to the same factories for repair/replacement and so the turnaround should still be good

to e36adz: Warranty is 1yr

Never required the use of the memory card slots. Never used more then 1 USB port on the PS3, which is just to charge the controller, and I don;t play any PS2 games anymore.

Seems like its a win-win to sell and get a new 80GB or 160GB version then.

At least your PS3 switched on then? Mines wouldnt switch on at all, got the flashing yellow light garbage, and worst of all, my fifa was stuck inside :( I went and got a new one, still waiting for sony to send me my old one back though

Frimware is kept on the HDD have you tried to get to the support menu and done a restore/reformat ? Sony will probably tell you what to do when you call them.

I can't seem to access that menu...

This is what the PlayStation Forum says:
1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

I hold power button down - starts. beeps once. restarts, does not just shut down.

I then try step 3 but it gives the 3 beeps rather than 2.

EDIT: Got it by trial and error. :p

EDIT 2: Has now recognised it is corrupted and is restoring file system.

EDIT 3: And now FIFA has started first time. :)
