Hey, may be looking at updating my computer, while taking graphics/psu from old computer. Is it worth investing in an old psu/graphics card to get a 2nd rig up and running? What do people usually use these for? Would cost me an extra £100 at most and then I'd have a second machine.

Is it worth it? :D

I have a second machine sitting under the desk doing nothing. If I'm ever working on my main rig it's great to plug in for e-mails and general pc use.

I sometimes use it as a HTPC also in the bedroom, is a little large for that though.

Kind of like having two cars... you don't need it, but it's nice if the main one is in for repairs.

Main rig = gaming/work/everyday use
Spare 1 = HTPC and gaming on the TV, was just being used for gaming if someone came over.
Spare 2 = currently not working, was being used as an HTPC and tv gaming.
Spare 3 = download box
Laptop 1 = movie watching in bed and net browsing
Laptop 2 = work laptop.

I did only have one spare, but hten I upgraded it and realised that if i bought another coupld of cases and the odd bit of hardware I had enough stuff for 2 more PC's so I ended up making them and trying to find uses for them. Probably going to repair spare 2 and sell it on though, as its not worth me having it and its got some good parts in it.

sell the parts for a netbook.i prefer to have a proper gaming only computer with as little programs installed as possible.i think i have about 4 programs like afterburner, ventrilo, avg and then my drivers, flash, firefox and thats it really.

much cleaner and i can do everything else like torrents on my netbook which costs less money in electric than the main pc.if i get a virus here then its not going to affect my gaming pc or slow it down overtime.

Does sound like a good idea, but I already have a netbook + I need the main pc for photo editing too.

Tempted to build a HTPC/pc I can mess around with overclocking etc.
