From what I understand this is the quickest way of transferring files from one pc to another (without removing hardware), theoretically allowing up to 100Mb/sec speeds which i believe equates to 12.5MB/sec. I imagine the actual speed would depend on many variables such as file sizes, cable, NIC but what speed can one really expect when transferring?

Please set some fixed variables if needed e.g. all 100MB files, Cat5e, gigabit NICs in both PCs.

Thanks

Indeed.

With Gigabit NICs in both PCs you should easily see 60MB/Sec unless you're transferring a lot of very small files.

It's worth noting that as long as at least one PC has a Gigabit NIC you don't need a crossover cable.

Thanks to you both. That's faster than I imagined. Also I wasn't aware of the Gigabit NIC being able to auto-negotiate; that's good to know.
