2x 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 + 1x 4GB Single Channel DDR3 = 12GB Triple Channel DDr3?

Hi All,

I have recently bought 8gb Geil Valueplus RAM, and because I do a lot of photoediting I have the feeling another 4GB might come in handy at some point. If I bought a 4gb stick of the same stuff would that be ok to put in?

Sorry newbie question but this is my first build

I think for it to work in triple channel, it needs to be 3 x identical sticks.

Tripple channel is currently only possible on i7 Socket 1366 processors/motherboards. 1155 & 1156 moterboards will only support dual-channel, even if you install 3 identical modules.

PhotosHop will benefit from 12GB of dual-channel ram (2x4GB in one channel, 4GB in the other), and this config will work on your i5 2500K. However, don't expect a stella performance boost.
